p53 Project
p53, a protein that binds DNA, is known as the guardian of the genome and has been implicated in many different types of cancers, thus gaining a better understanding of the structure and dynamics of p53 is critical to the development of anti-cancer drug treatments. A potential drug called MQ is known to covalently bind Cys amino acids on p53 and prevent its mode of action. The current study is investigating the structural and energetic role of MQ in preventing p53 from binding DNA using computational chemistry techniques.
